Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms Hosts Her First Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway Sept. 22

ATLANTA – Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will host the fourth annual Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway Saturday, Sept. 22. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and interim Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari will join roughly 2,000 runners and walkers as they take off on Runway 10-28.

 

The event, which takes place on the fifth runway of the world’s busiest airport, will include Grammy-nominated rap artist and Atlanta native Young Jeezy, along with four Atlanta Olympic medalists – Christian Coleman, Dwight Phillips, Angelo Taylor and Terrance Trammell – serving as race ambassadors. Participants will be greeted by the thrilling Marching Astros of Frederick Douglass High School, Mayor Bottom’s high school alma mater.

WHAT: Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway

WHEN:

Saturday, Sept. 22

  • Check-in / bib pickup: 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Runway lineup: 6:15 a.m.
  • Start: 6:30 a.m.
  • Finish: 7:30 a.m.
  • Awards: 7:55 a.m.
    Course will close at 7:30 a.m. Runners/walkers who are unable to complete the course by this time will be redirected to an alternate route.
WHERE: 5th Runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (Runway 10-28)

 

ATTENTION MEDIA:

Media must RSVP to media@atl.com  by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 with full name and date of birth for each reporter covering the event.

 

PARKING: 

  • Satellite/live trucks will be allowed to park at Fire Station 33 (1401 Sullivan Road, College Park, GA 30337). Trucks must be staged by 5:30 a.m. All media must check in by 5:45 a.m.
  • All other members of the media must park at the ATL Technical Campus (1255 S. Loop Road, College Park, GA 30337) 

LIVE ACCESS: 

Satellite trucks and other vehicles will NOT be allowed on the airfield. Live shots are possible from the airfield with backpack equipment. No cables are allowed on the airfield. Reporters can go live from their satellite trucks on the pre-security side of Fire Station 33. Stations wishing to go live for the event should email media@atl.com.
